The STINK face

It's been a little too quiet in my bloggy world lately. Definitely not because there's a lack of things to write about, but I've been just a little preoccupied lately. I think tonight marks about the fourth time I've actually sat down at the computer since we returned from China - all my other "online" connecting has been done in 30 second intervals via my iphone.

Call me old fashioned, but if it's not super-important or interesting I'm not going to look at it on a three-inch screen.

The last month has been a whirlwind of highs and lows. I'm not sure what made me think the rollercoaster was going to stop when we brought Meili home - it certainly has not. Perhaps we'll share more about that later.

For now, I am just going to introduce you to Meili's other side. If you remember, we mentioned that while we were in China, she did not cry. You may remember these pictures from previous posts - this was as close as she came to letting us know she was unhappy.

A couple weeks after returning home we began to see that face more and more and MORE.

It was soon dubbed "The Stink Face."

There are many versions of the Stink Face, but they all basically mean the same thing: Meili is not getting her way!

Forgive the iphone quality pictures. I have to be quick to capture the Stink Face! She can alternate between Perfectly Sweet and Stink Face in about 1 second FLAT. We are even beginning to see fake Stink Faces which disappear immediately when she gets her way....she's getting this thing figured out!

She will not look straight-on when she's mad, but she will gladly glare at you out of the corners of her eyes.

The "pouty-eyes" Stink Face.

The "mad mouth" Stink Face.

The all-out tantrum!

Another "side-glare" Stink Face with a curled lip added.

We find the Stink Face pretty darn cute and amusing MOST of the time. She really can be quite a drama queen! And to be honest, this is probably a good thing. The fact that she shows emotion now is likely an indication that she's getting more comfortable here.

And that smiley, happy, charming little Meili that you probably see when you meet her...? Yeah, she really is like that about 95% of the time.

But when that other 5% shows up...let's just say she does it REALLY well :)

One other big thing that's happened here is a change in how my hubby does photography. He had only taken donations for his work while we were paying for Meili's adoption, but since we don't have any "official" adoption bills anymore, something had to change. In order to keep everything legal and properly accounted for, he chose to start a business - Blue Iris Photography!

We still have many medical bills and hope this will help ease that burden. We're also hoping to be able to become adoption advocates and help other families welcome one of these precious orphans into their home. Please feel free to visit his page or contact him if you'd like to know more!
